A to Z Baby Items

A to Z Baby Items is a popular baby shower game because it's easy and fun to play.

Essentially the game is played by identifying a baby item that starts with each letter of the alphabet, so one item per letter.

The guest who can guess the most items in a given amount of time wins!

How to Play the Game

Each guest is given a game sheet that has the alphabet listed with a line next to each letter, this is where they will write in their baby item.

You can decide how long you'd like to give your guests to play the game, just remember that the more time you give guests, then the more winners you may have.

If you think you'll have lots of winners and not enough prizes, then you might just tell the guests that the first person to fill in every letter is the winner, even if it's before the time is up.

If time does run out, then the person who has the most items listed after the time is up wins! If you're unsure about how much time to give, then do a quick run through of the game yourself and test out how long it takes you to fill in every letter, then reduce that by 30 seconds to 1 minute to make it challenging.

What You Need to Play

To play the game, you will need game sheets for your guests, pens for the guests, and a prize or prizes depending on how many winners you plan to have for the game.

If you'd like to create game answer sheets to match the theme of your baby shower, then you could personalize it with the name of the mom-to-be or you can print the game on pretty colored paper that matches your theme.

As guests will need to write on the answer sheet, you might consider printing the game on cardstock in case there aren't a lot of writing surfaces available at the party.

If you are printing the game on cardstock, there are fun colored or patterned cardstock options available at most craft stores. Aside from the game answer sheets, make sure you have plenty of pens and pencils for guests to use to play.

When to Play the Game

As this is a timed game, it doesn't make a very good passive game because if you give guests the entire party to fill out the sheets, then you'll probably end up with multiple winners.

Because the game is easy and quick, you can really play it at any time, but since the game is all about baby items, you might want to play the game before the baby shower gifts are opened so that the game is bit more challenging. If you do it afterwards, then people will have seen tons of baby gifts and it might be easier to win.

Game Prizes

As this is a quick and simple game, the prizes don't have to be something grand. Some simple prizes ideas that you can pick up at any discount department store include a set of mini nail polish bottles, a bath/spa set, a pack of cute dish towels, a collection of blank thank you notes or maybe even a nice scarf.

If it's a co-ed shower, then you might want to include more unisex prizes or even go with a gift card to a local shop if you are short on time and ideas.

Looking for a game to play during the gift opening portion of the baby shower? Baby shower BINGO can be the perfect game to keep your guests entertained while the mom-to-be is being showered with gifts. The game is just like bingo but instead of numbers there are gift items, so with each gift being opened, the players will mark off their bingo card if they have that item, then the first to get five vertical, horizontal or diagonal wins!

A baby shower word scramble game is another quick and easy game that requires very little set up. Like the Baby Items A to Z game, all you will need are the game sheets, pens and prizes! You may find a lot of overlapping questions, so playing these two games back-to-back may not be a good idea because it may be easy for some to quickly make use of the answers from one game to help with the next. So if you do want to play both games during the shower, then give your guests some time between the two games so that it's not too easy.

Don't say "baby" is a great ice breaker game for big crowds, especially big crowds who may not know each other very well. It's an easy game to put together, the only necessary part is giving instructions to the guests as they come in so that you make sure that everyone knows how to play and that no one feels left out. Beside the instructions, you will need some pins, buttons or other small accessory that will work as a way to track the winner.

Baby shower activities are a great alternative to games. Activities are a way to give guests some things to do without making it a big game or production. Activities are usually passive meaning guests can do them whenever they want during the shower or not at all if they choose not to. If you want a low-key occassion without all the busy-ness that games produce, then consider some of these activities that will still ensure that your guests are able to participate in this memorable event.
